Meditate at Aurora's shrine. Enter the musical orbit and go out after few seconds before the song starts (6/7 seconds in the orb seems to be the ideal timing for brown butterflies). You will then be reset. At that point the butterflies will be brown in almost all maps. Depending on the timing, the butterflies will be lighter or darker brown. If you leave the musical orbit too early or too late the butterflies will be black.
